Prayer and Liturgy

At St Joseph’s, children and staff take part in deeply engaging experiences of prayer and liturgy. These include prayerful silence, thoughtful responses to prayer and active participation in communal singing.

Pupils work collaboratively with teachers, other children in school and pupils across our Catholic Education Trust to prepare creative and well-constructed experiences of prayer and liturgy.

Our children engage meaningfully in collective worship and can articulate how it helps them to reflect on themselves and the wider world, inspiring them to put their faith into action.

St Joseph’s has close links with our parish, Our Lady and All Saints. Every classroom has a dedicated prayer area, and we are developing a prayer garden to provide a peaceful space for prayer, reflection and collective worship.

Parents and carers are invited to participate in the prayer life of the school through regular whole-school Masses, class Masses, family Masses and Celebrations of the Word. They are kept informed through newsletters and published diary dates.

Our parish priest is a regular and valued visitor to school. He leads and supports worship, contributes to RE lessons and joins us for significant occasions, such as the blessing of our Advent wreaths.

Celebration of the Word Progression 26.27

When I sing in Songs of Praise I feel like Jesus can hear me and I am closer to Him (Year 6)

When we are quiet and thinking, I feel that Jesus is in my heart (Year 4)

The stories (Gospel readings) we learn about help me to be a better person and live like Jesus (Year 3)

Prayer Garden Development

Over the coming weeks, we will be developing and enhancing our school prayer garden. Led by our Mini Vinnies, this special project will create a peaceful outdoor space where everyone can connect with God through the beauty of the natural environment—whether worshipping together or finding a quiet moment for personal prayer and reflection.
