Laudato Si'

Laudato Si’ — Caring for Our Common Home
Laudato Si’, meaning “Praise be to you”, is a letter written by Pope Francis in 2015. It invites everyone - Catholic, other faith or of no faith - to care for the Earth, our “common home”, and reminds us that looking after creation and looking after one another go hand in hand. The damage caused by pollution, waste and climate change often affects the poorest communities most severely.
At St Joseph’s, we are on a mission to put this message into action through our Eco Warriors. This pupil leadership group helps our school community make thoughtful choices about how we use resources and care for the world around us.
Our mission includes reducing waste, reusing and recycling, saving water and energy, caring for plants and wildlife, and keeping our school grounds clean. Our Eco Warriors give children a voice in shaping these actions and encourage everyone to take responsibility.
Through this work, we live out the Catholic Social Teaching principle of stewardship: caring responsibly for God’s creation so that people today and future generations can enjoy it.
Every light switched off, piece of litter collected and resource reused is a small act of care. Together, these choices help us live our school mission: “As a family with God in our hearts, we love, laugh and learn.”
