Outdoor Learning
At St. Joseph's we recognise the valuable role that learning outdoors has on developing happy, healthy children. Outdoor learning is a key part of what we do, and we're lucky to have a large outdoor area where children can explore and learn throughout the year. Being outside helps them develop important skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity, while also connecting them to nature. Outdoor learning keeps children active and supports their mental well-being, making lessons more engaging and hands-on. Our spacious grounds give every child the chance to grow, learn, and enjoy a well-rounded education in a fun and stimulating environment.
Kanga Forest
Our Forest School provision offers a unique approach to learning that takes place in our natural environment within our school grounds and in the surrounding area of Otley. Our children are encouraged to explore, discover and learn in a hands-on way, using the natural world as their classroom. With a focus on practical skills, children are given the opportunity to engage with nature, building their confidence, resilience, and independence.
At Forest School, children have the opportunity to experience a range of activities, such as bushcraft, outdoor games, woodland crafts, and wildlife identification. Each activity is designed to encourage children to think creatively, solve problems, and work collaboratively.
Forest School provision is an excellent addition to our school curriculum, providing an opportunity for the children at St. Joseph's to learn in a way that is both enjoyable and engaging. The aim of our Forest School provision is to provide children with a great appreciation for nature and the environment around them.
